Maintenance

The Macintosh computer does not require any physical maintenance. Many people leave their Macs on continuously. Bet there's an SE or a Plus out there somewhere that has been running continuously for over 10 years. Just clean the screen now and then with a damp cloth (not window cleaner!) and wipe dirt off of the keyboard.

If your mouse is misbehaving, the rollers may be dirty. Turn it over, unscrew the little ring that holds the ball, take out the ball, and scrape the crud & dust off of those little rollers (we usually use tweasers).

The software and data on the hard drive of your machine do require periodic maintenance. These are some things that you can do to help your Mac run better and protect your stuff:
