Startup Items

Are there one or two applications that you find yourself launching every time you start up your Mac? There's an easy way to automate this task — by using the Startup Items folder.

All you need to do is make an alias to the application and put it in the Startup Items folder. Then the next time you boot your Mac, that program will be automatically launched.

This is handy for little utilities that you always need — like QuickLaunch — that take hardly any time to launch and use very little RAM. But be careful about auto-launching bigger applications. If you crash, or have to restart frequently in order to juggle extension sets, you will have to wait quite a while if you have Photoshop, Netscape, and Word in your Startup Items folder.
